Benchmade 940 Osborne Knife Review
Apr 21, 2012
The superb Benchmade 940 Osborne folding knife redefines quality and style for lock-blade knives. Carry a trusty companion. Elegant Warren Osborne design is slim in profile and solid in performance with its premium S30V steel blade. S30V steel is a powder-made steel with uniform carbide distribution for clean steel properties. S30V offers excellent corrosion resistance and superb edge qualities; modified reverse tanto blade shape enhances tip strength. Ambidextrous dual thumb studs allow easy, one-hand deployment of blade for both right- and left-handed users. Reversible, tip-up steel belt clip offers multiple, secured carry options. Patented AXIS® locking mechanism securely locks blade and complements smooth one-handed opening and closure. Fully adjustable blade pivot lets you set knife action to your personal taste.Lightweight 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum handle provides a strong, comfortable frame that is easy to handle.
CRKT Carson M4 knife: "HD EDC" by Nutnfancy
May 10, 2012
A heavy duty EDC knife or maybe tactical folder, the CRKT Carson M4 looks to be a strong knife. With its AutoLAWKS feature, the blade is automatically locked into the open position which should preclude inadvertent closure. It does tend to become obnoxious in use however (as it makes closing tedious and it most uses isn't needed anyhow). The hollow ground, AUS-8 steel drop point blade should offer excellent utility and perhaps some tactical capabilities with its 3.6 length. Deployment with the M4 is fast and smooth with or without its removable-torsion bar (Outburst mechanism) for assisted opening (I prefer it removed in this model, as shown). Downsides would include its 5.2 oz weight, the slick Zytel handle scales and a non-positionable pocket clip (dedicated tip down). But overall this is a handsome and capable blade that will serve admirably if your system can accept the weight.///////////////////// Nutnfancy Likeability Scale: 7.5 out of 10
Boker Desert Dagger: "Focused Warrior" by Nutnfancy
Apr 22, 2012
Daggers in modern warfare have a storied and impressive past. There are purpose built killing tools and in the hands of the trained commandos, they did just that with great effect. They may lack the overall versatility of a general fixed blade like the KaBar Marine Combat knife, but they make up for it in the steadfast approach to their design goal of killing efficiently and silently. This Boker limited edition Desert Dagger is an excellent example of a modern dagger, upgraded to better materials and a more efficient cutting blade. At 12.6 oz its weight is reasonable, that is if you've determined the only blade you need to hanging from your webgear that day is one purpose built for a thrust attack. It's a great addition to a tactical knife collection due to its quality and focused purpose.
Integral Butterfly Swords (Wing Chun Butterfly Knives, Bart Jarm
May 13, 2012
These professional-grade butterfly knives, from Everything Wing Chun and Modell Design LLC, are of the fat-bladed chopper design preferred by modern Wing Chun stylists. They are built to a hybrid style that permits stabbing as well as chopping. These swords are the best on the market today, period. They have the look and feel of an expensive pair of custom-made swords and are the result of more than 9 months of very hard work. We are proud to finally offer them for sale. These swords are part of a limited edition run of only 50 pairs.
Spyderco Native 4 Carbon Fiber: Flat Cool
Apr 26, 2012
I have never warmed up to the rakish grind on the regular Spyderco Native. However this Carbon Fiber (CF) Native4 version, as noted last year in the catalog, is much more intriguing to me. It is a showpiece edition of the Native, featuring very thin CF scales which improve visual presentation. These scales also make the Native CF extremely FLAT and comfortable in carry, aided by the typically well-executed Spyderco clip design (properly blackened for the theme). But expect no traction on these scales: they are disappointingly slick and provide zero purchase. A textured and matte finished CF along the lines of the "Buck Mayo TNT" (250 pc limited edition) would have been preferred. The jimping on the underside choil is perfect but it is glaringly absent on the upper spine; an incomplete execution of the design. The lack of traction not withstanding, the CF ergos as are good but would be improved by the addition of some jimping topside (or you can add a thin strip of skateboard traction tape as Ive shown before). The carry weight of 3.4 ounces is unimpressive for a CF knife (should be feather light) and can be attributed to the skeletonized stainless steel frame of this knife. At this price point and design goal, a titanium frame would have been superior. Deployment speed and lockup are superb as is the 2.9" full flat ground, bright finished VG10 steel blade. It is very functional and perfectly sized for EDC. Fit and finish are impressive and the knife could be a crowd ...
